What to do if you see a liquid-detection alert on your iPhone?

The arrival of summer and good weather means you’ll need to take care not to get your iPhone wet. Want to know how to protect your iPhone from water?

What is the iPhone Liquid-Detection Alert?

"Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector" is a liquid-detection alert that is a warning displayed on your iPhone screen when moisture or liquid gets into the Lightning connector. Why here? To avoid problems when charging your iPhone.

iPhone models from 2018 onwards will alert you if your Lightning port gets wet.

Two types of Lightning-port liquid-detection alerts

  • Charging not available: disconnect the charger. It may take several hours before your iPhone is ready to charge again.
  • Liquid in the lightning connector: "Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector." In this case, we recommend disconnecting the cable and even switching your iPhone off to allow it to dry without any interference. It may take several hours, so be patient!

Why should you avoid charging your iPhone while there is moisture or liquid in the Lightning connector?

In order to avoid any adverse effects on the iPhone, We at iSTYLE recommend making sure the iPhone is completely dried out, as any moisture or liquid could lead to the port pins getting damaged.

What should you do if liquid has been detected inside the Lightning connector?

Act quickly! Unplug the charging cable immediately to avoid damaging the iPhone or the charger.

  • Step 1 - Place the iPhone upright and tap it gently to expel liquid from the connector.
  • Step 2 - Let it dry out in a dry area for one hour. It’s better to leave it too long than risk causing damage.
  • Step 3 - If the warning still shows, it’s best to leave it for a whole day.
  • Step 4 - Never use a hairdryer or similar device. Do not insert cotton wool or cotton swabs that may leave debris inside your iPhone.
  • Step 5 - Leave it in rice? No! It is best to leave the iPhone to dry on its own, without any external agents that may cause damage.
