How to update MacBook

Apple regularly releases macOS updates that improve system performance, introduce new features, and enhance security. These updates may also include updates for built-in apps.
If you receive a notification about a software update, you can install it immediately or schedule it for later that night. You can also manually check for updates whenever you’d like.
Tip: To update apps downloaded from the App Store, simply open the App Store and check for available updates.
How to Manually Check for macOS Updates
To check for and install macOS updates, follow these steps:
- Step 1: Click the Apple menu > System Settings.
- Step 2: In the sidebar, scroll down and click General.
- Step 3: Select Software Update to check for the latest macOS version.
How to update apps from the App Store
- Step 1: Click the Apple menu .
- Step 2: If updates are available, you’ll see a number next to the App Store. Click the App Store to open and install the updates.
How to Customize Mac Software Update Settings
You can enable automatic updates to keep your Mac up to date with minimal effort.
- Step 1 - Click the Apple menu > System Settings.
- Step 2 - In the sidebar, scroll down and select General.
- Step 3 - Click Software Update.
- Step 4 - Click the Info button next to Automatic Updates, then adjust the following settings:
- Download new updates when available – Automatically download updates in the background.
- Install macOS updates – Install macOS updates automatically.
- Install application updates from the App Store – Automatically update apps from the App Store.
- Install Security Responses and system files – Ensure security patches and system files are updated automatically.
- Step 1: Click Done to save your preferences.
- Step 2: Click the Apple menu > System Settings.
- Step 3: In the sidebar, scroll down and select General.
- Step 4: Click Software Update.
- Step 5: Click the Info button next to Automatic Updates, then adjust the following settings:

Note: If you're using a MacBook, ensure it’s plugged into power for automatic updates to install.
