Apple Introduces Tap to Pay on iPhone in the UAE: A New Era for Contactless Payments

Apple has officially launched Tap to Pay on iPhone in the United Arab Emirates on December 10, 2024, revolutionizing the way businesses accept in-person, contactless payments. This innovative feature allows merchants to seamlessly and securely accept payments using just an iPhone—no additional hardware or payment terminals required. Whether you're a small business or a large retailer, you can now accept payments from contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets, all through an iPhone and a partner-enabled iOS app.

Tap to Pay on iPhone works with iPhones running the latest iOS version, starting with the iPhone Xs. At checkout, the merchant simply prompts the customer to hold their contactless credit or debit card, iPhone, Apple Watch, or other digital wallets near the merchant’s iPhone. The payment is securely processed using NFC technology, ensuring a smooth transaction.

What’s more, no extra hardware is required, making it easy for merchants to accept payments wherever they do business, whether in a store, at a market, or even on the go.

Apple has partnered with leading payment platforms and app developers to bring Tap to Pay on iPhone to the UAE. These platforms and developers can integrate Tap to Pay on iPhone into their iOS apps, enabling businesses to adopt this easy and secure payment solution. Starting December 10, Adyen, Magnati, and Network International are the first payment platforms in the UAE to support Tap to Pay on iPhone. The service works with contactless credit and debit cards from major payment networks, including American Express, Mastercard, and Visa.

Privacy and Security at the Core of Tap to Pay on iPhone

Apple places a strong emphasis on privacy, and Tap to Pay on iPhone is built with the same secure technologies that make Apple Pay a trusted option for millions worldwide. Every transaction is encrypted and processed using the Secure Element, ensuring that sensitive payment information is always protected. Importantly, Apple does not store any details about what is being purchased or who is making the purchase, ensuring complete user privacy.

Please Note: Some contactless cards may not be accepted, and transaction limits may apply. The contactless payment symbol is a trademark owned by EMVCo, LLC and is used with its permission.
