There are numerous exciting new features that we will all be able to enjoy on our iPhones with iOS 17 starting from September. If you don't want to wait until September to experience these new features and more, here's a guide on how to install the iOS 17 beta version before its official release.
What is the iOS 17 beta version?
When an operating system is launched, it goes through different phases. The final phase is the software's official release, but before that, it undergoes a beta phase. During this phase, the software is tested and updated frequently until a stable and problem-free version is ready for launch.
In September, the stable version of iOS 17 will be available for everyone to install. However, during the summer, users have the option to install the iOS 17 beta on their devices if they choose to do so.
Steps to install iOS 17 beta
Let’s get into it! Now it's time to install iOS 17 beta and, to do so, you'll need to follow these steps:
Step 1 - On your iPhone go to developer.apple.com
Step 2 - Scroll down to iOS 17, click on it then click on Download
Step 3 - Sign in with your Apple ID and accept the terms and conditions.
Step 4 - Next, go to Settings> General> Software update
Step 5 - Go to the Beta Updates section and select iOS 17 Developer beta
You can now install the iOS 17 beta! It may take a few minutes for the update to appear. To access the Software Update section and download iOS 17 beta, you can simply close and reopen the Settings app.
Recommendations before installing iOS 17 beta
I'm sure you can't wait to install iOS 17 beta on your iPhone. Before doing so, there are a few things to bear in mind:
- Backup your device, preferably to a computer.
- There might be apps that don’t work properly.
- Battery life may not be as good, not to mention device performance.
- Note that, once you upgrade to a beta version, it's really hard to downgrade to iOS 16 again.
- You’ll receive a new beta version roughly every 15 days until the definitive version is released in September.
- Make sure you update when each new beta version is released so that your iPhone performs better.
All these "inconveniences" are necessary. That's what a beta version is for, to discover bugs and fix them before the official launch in September.
